How long does it take for a dandelion to grow from seed?

Seed Maturity

It takes between nine and 15 days for the dandelion bloom to fully mature into the puffy, ripe seed head. This time frame also depends on the temperature and conditions. The plant seeds mature faster in dry, warm weather.

Can you grow your own dandelions?

Dandelions can be sown outdoors four to six weeks before the last frost. Sow seed directly, and once they've sprouted above the soil, thin so they are six to eight inches apart. Dandelions readily reseed themselves but often in places where you'd rather they didn't grow.

Can you just pick dandelions and eat them?

Simply pick young greens (older ones are more bitter) and add them to a tossed salad. While you can make a salad out of just the dandelion greens, it tends to be too bitter for many people, especially kids.

What part of the dandelion is poisonous?

Almost all parts of the dandelion are edible and nutritious. Avoid the flower stems, as they have a white, sticky 'latex' in them that has a bit of a laxative effect. :) Leaves can be eaten raw or as cooked greens.

What is the side effect of dandelion?

Side effects of Taraxacum officinale are abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, heartburn, increased heart rate, bruising and bleeding, excessive urination, and increased potassium levels (hyperkalemia).
